Some people say you can’t shoot green screen photos if you have to shoot outdoors. We’ve been doing it for years. Our preference is to shoot photos indoors so we don’t have to worry about the elements and will never have to cancel a shoot because of the weather. We will pay to rent a local school or church gym or large classroom so we have perfect conditions for the shoot.
However, we also understand when some leagues want to keep the shoot located at their playing fields.
The use of tents not only allows us to do green screen photography outdoors, but it also allows us to use professional studio lighting outdoors.
The biggest problem we see with some youth sports photo companies taking photos outdoors is they are simply using a flash on top of their camera or even worse using no lighting at all. Professional lighting will make the focus that much crisper and pop the color. If you can’t see detail in the eyes of a youth sports portrait, you know that they weren’t using professional lighting.
The other two reasons we use green screen photography on all of our sports shoots are to give clients a creative, graphical background to turn a photo into a portrait. By using a background like this, you’ll never get distracting elements in the background of the photo. I’ve seen everything from random people walking past in the background of other companies sports portraits to light poles sticking out of the head of a subject.
We don’t shoot green screen because it’s easier than just taking photos with a camera without any background or lighting. In fact, it takes much more time and money for us to do it this way. We do it because we are committed to providing the best possible portraits to our clients!
